Dr Stephan A. Zwahlen (born 1978) joined the Executive Board of Maerki Baumann & Co. AG in 2009 before being appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board in 2011 and CEO in 2016. In 2007, he was responsible for the foundation of Switzerland’s first independent transaction bank at Maerki Baumann. Zwahlen subsequently worked in the international mandate business of UBS Global Wealth Management. From 2009, he was involved in the transformation process that would see Maerki Baumann become a modern, agile private bank. In 2019, he was the driving force behind the establishment of Maerki Baumann’s crypto strategy.
Zwahlen studied and obtained a doctorate in business administration with a specialisation in banking and finance at the University of St.Gallen. He is also a lecturer at the University of St.Gallen and sits on the boards of various industry associations as well as institutions in the realms of science and politics.
